Founded in the 60's by Giorgio Lungarotti, the Lungarotti cantina (wine cellar) has given a new dimension to the small town of Torgiano and to his wines. The cantina is based on close family relationships who know the respect of values which includes the tradition, history and land. The estate is now run by two sisters, Chiara Lungarotti and Teresa Severini. Maria Grazia Lungarotti now runs a Lungarotti foundation dedicated to the development of culture. Lungarotti offers a multitude of wines ranging, starting to a young wine to be drunk on its fruit, to some exceptional wines, among them : a Torgiano Riserva, the perfect complement of Sagrantino.
While the latter is characterised by powerful tannins and an explosive fruity flavour, the Rubesco Riserva, discreet at first glance, develops aromas with finesse and elegance to please the greatest connoisseurs' palates.
Many of Lungarotti wines have been awarded several times. The famous Italian wines guide Gambero Rosso honoured several years the San Giorgio, the Rubesco, the Gubilante, the Torre di Giano (best white wine price/quality of all Italy) and of course the Rubesco Riserva. Parker enjoys the range of wines each year and the San Giorgio and Rubesco Riserva are still competing for the top honours of the taster. Finally, Decanter recently gave a prize to the Rubesco Riserva 2003.
