Description

The domain name is inherited from one of the noble house Lagrange Monteil which we find traces in the sixteenth century. It seems that the first major development of the vineyard is due to the Baron de Brane eighteenth. Among the famous owners succeeded Jean-Valère Cabarrus, Bordeaux wine merchant and shipowner, who made a major expansion of the vineyard, John Lewis Brown, a rich merchant of Scottish origin and, in the mid eighteenth, Count Tanneguy Duchâtel, minister under Louis Philippe, who did much for the quality of wines through his manager, Theodore Galos, who at the time also managed Mouton-Rothschild. The vines covering nearly 120 ha are then drained, production reached 300 tons (equivalent to 360,000 bottles) and wine ranked 3rd Grand Cru in 1855. Thereafter begins a long decline due to vine diseases, wars and successive crises so that the successive owners are forced to give large plots, including in 1970 in favor of Ducru-Beaucaillou and Gloria. The renewal occurs only in 1983 when the Japanese beverage group Suntory buys from the field to the Cendoya family. Suntory is the vineyard then is reduced to 57 ha. Soon, major investments are made: the cellars and castle are renovated in 1986 and gradually extended to 113 ha vineyards to regain its size before. The management area is entrusted to the winemaker Marcel Ducasse who succeeded in 2007, Bruno EYRARD who had previously assisted in the technical direction. Jacques and Eric Boissenot are Winemakers Council. Located west of Beychevelle, the vineyard extends over two ridges of serious north-south, mixed with sand or ferruginous clay. The planting red consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (28%) and Petit Verdot (7%). The little white wine (4ha) is divided between Sauvignon (60%), Semillon (30%) and Muscadelle (10%). The average age of the vines is 30 years and planting density of 8,500 vines / ha. The vineyard work is conducted in order to obtain grapes of great wealth and quality by limiting yields (size, green jobs, planting density, selection of clones ...).

Vintage Description
