DOMAINE HARMAND-GEOFFROY (Gevrey-Chambertin)
The son of a diplomat, who spent his childhood in London, Gérard Harmand took over the running of this estate in Gevrey-Chambertin in the early 1990s. Under his direction, Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy has risen through Burgundy’s league table to a firm place in the premiership. Gérard understands very well that Burgundy’s strong point is that its wines offer a unique sense of place, but that they can be inaccessible to the newcomer. In light of this, he aims to make wines that are both faithful to their specific vineyard origins while possessing some fleshiness of texture and charm.
The domaine has currently 9ha and produces only red wines. While it is not certified, the philosophy of Gérard is to limit to use to chemicals and to limit the number of interferences. The domain tends to use from 20% to 50% new oak for 12 to 16 months depending on the parcel and on the quality of the vintage.
