Chateau Doisy-Daëne 1998 - Sauternes 2eme Grand Cru Classe
Chateau Doisy-Daëne, Second Classified Growth in 1855, is located in Barsac in the Sauternes appellation. The terroir of Barsac plateau is a unique geological formation in Bordeaux. A thin layer of clayey sands "the Barsac red sands" covers the limestone subsoil. This rock slab lightly cracked limits the rooting depth of the vine to about 50 cm. During the summer, the slightly porous rock returns to the vine the water it was soaked during the winter, avoiding excessive water stress. This type of soil, gives exceptionally fine white wines.

A high quality vintage. A hot, dry climate has achieved a perfect ripeness of grapes with thick skins that have protected them during torrential rains in September. The great castles, practicing a rigorous selection process, produced fine wines, elegant and complex. The Pomerol and Saint-Emilion powerful and velvety wine. Graves and Margaux have more fruit and finesse than other vintages. The sweet, less complete than in 1997, are generally fruity and elegant.
