Cruzeau Castle, located on the borders of Martillac and Saint-Médard-d'Eyrans, south of the wine region of Pessac-Léognan in the Graves, is a very old terroir. Its origins date back to the seventeenth century. It is indeed under the leadership of Jacques Cruzeau, major Bordeaux lawyer was born this area. This lawyer bequeathed his name and breathed his wine vocation. In the eighteenth century the NOLIBOIS Sieur, a rich merchant, succeeded him and his numerous commercial relations contributed to publicize the wine Cruzeau on the Bordeaux. The high quality and finesse of these were soon recognized by the best dealers in the city. In 1841 the magazine ""The Producer"" to the rank of first growth of the town, white and red. In 1858, the Cante family owned and vinified fifteen tons of red and white wines. The castle itself was built in 1912. Some of the eighteenth century buildings still remain and witness the wine past of the place. In 1973, in the aftermath of a storm - a kind of mini-tornado highly localized - in which a parcel of young pine trees had been completely devastated, André Lurton discovered this property. Curious, he walked it. The roots of uprooted trees were studded with stones: a serious extraordinary terroir, with all the qualities required to produce a great wine here. He redeemed immediately, the field whose vineyard had almost disappeared since the late nineteenth century, under the repeated assaults of phylloxera. From 1975, André Lurton and his colleagues focused their efforts to restore its plume Castle Cruzeau. Clearings, renovations, restoration, deforestation, planting and replanting succeeded.

Vintage Description

A good vintage with a bountiful harvest. Often considered, wrongly, as lower than 1978 wines from this vintage are fruity and harmonious. From a good aging potential, fine wines are revealed today delicious, like Latour, Leoville Las Cases, Haut-Brion or the Mission Haut-Brion. Underestimated and undercut the 1979 vintage represents an excellent quality / price ratio. Sweet wines are balanced and of good quality.
