Description

The winery Fornacina is situated just outside the town of Montalcino, surrounded by its vineyards. The Biliorsi family produces the Brunello di Montalcino according to the tradition, a passion passed on for generations. Ruggero Biliorsi is the founder of the winery, where the first bottle of Brunello goes back to 1981; it is now run by his son Simon with the collaboration of his brother Mauro, maintaining the same values of the grounds where it all began. With the consultancy of winemaker Attilio Pagli and agronomist Folco Giovanni Bencini, they are carrying out a small but ambitious project looking to produce a Brunello as the tradition commands, and also to protect the environment that surrounds the winery.

Red wine produced from 100% Sangiovese harvested in the first decade of october vinificated in stainless steel tanks for 30 days. After the Malolatic, the wine is aged in traditional Slavonian oak casks for 36 months. After the wine refines for another 12 months in the bottle, before put into commerce. The colour is ruby red with carnet reflections from the ageing. The bouquet is intense mature red fruit, with spicy notes. The palate is full, persistent with soft and elegant tannins.

Millésime 2006
Description du millésime 2006 is amongst the vintage to remember in Tuscany and particularly in the Montalcino region. The weather in Tuscany tracked that of most of Italy: very hot in June and July, mild and damp in August, then hot again through September and October, with intermittent periods of rain. Yet despite the capricious weather conditions, winemakers throughout Tuscany are lauding the quality of the 2006 vintage. The clement weather late in the season allowed producers to take time, waiting for each parcel of Sangiovese vines to mature before picking. The colors are excellentand the skins were very thick, which made extraction a bit difficult but the 2006 is a high quality vintage. The fact that there was no severe spring frost in 2006, unlike the excellent 1997 and 2001 vintages, is significant. The wines have the concentration of fruit and overall quality as in 1997 and 2001 plus quantity.
